This policy explains what happens to your information when you use this website. Mr Idea's DIY is a one-person woodworking business based in Manchester, England. I am the data controller for any personal data collected through this site, which means I decide what is collected and why.

The short version: this site is a shop window. There is no contact form, no account to create, and no mailing list. The only personal information I hold is what you send me directly by email, or what you provide when you buy something through Etsy — and those purchases are handled by Etsy's systems, not mine.

What I Collect

Information you send me

If you email me, I receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. I use this only to reply to you and to deal with anything arising from your message.

Lawful basis: legitimate interest — responding to someone who has chosen to contact me.

Information collected automatically

This website is built on Google Sites. Google sets cookies necessary for the site to function and to protect against abuse, and records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. This happens as part of Google hosting the site, and I have no control over it or access to it individually. The notice you see about cookies when you first visit is Google's, not mine. Google's practices are described in their privacy policy.

Lawful basis: legitimate interest — running a functioning, secure website.

Google Maps

The Contact page includes an embedded Google Map. When that page loads, Google may collect information about your visit and set cookies. If you would rather avoid this, don't visit that page.

What I Don't Collect

• There is no contact form on this site.

• There are no user accounts and nothing to sign up for.

• There is no mailing list or newsletter.

• I don't use website analytics or advertising trackers.

• I don't take payments through this website, so I never see your card details.

• I don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone for marketing.

Buying Through Etsy

All sales happen on Etsy, not here. When you buy from me there, Etsy collects and processes your information under its own privacy policy, and passes me only what I need to make and post your order — typically your name, delivery address and any message you've sent with the order. I use this to fulfil your order and nothing else.

Lawful basis: performance of a contract — I can't post you a spice rack without an address.

I keep order records for six years, which is the period HMRC requires business records to be retained.

Lawful basis: legal obligation — UK tax law.

Links to Other Sites

This site links out to Etsy, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok. Once you follow one of those links you're on their platform, under their privacy policy, and I have no control over what they collect. Worth reading their policies if that matters to you.

How Long I Keep Things

• Emails: kept while the conversation is live and for up to two years afterwards, then deleted.

• Order records: six years, as required for tax purposes.

Where Your Data Goes

Google and Etsy are both US companies and may process data outside the UK. Both operate under recognised international transfer safeguards. I don't transfer your data anywhere myself — it stays in my email account and my order records.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Ask what personal data I hold about you and get a copy of it

• Have inaccurate data corrected

• Ask me to delete your data, where I'm not required to keep it

• Ask me to restrict how I use it

• Object to my using it

• Ask for it in a portable format

Email me and I'll deal with it within one month. There's no charge.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I'd rather you came to me first so I can put it right, but you don't have to.

Security

I take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, but no method of storing or transmitting data online is completely secure, and I can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has sent me personal information, email me and I'll delete it.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes I'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. There's no mailing list, so this page is the only place changes are announced — worth a look if it matters to you.
